The goal of this workshop is to connect with local San Diego high schools. There are many students who are interested in joining robotics in high school but lack basic skills. We aim at bridging this gap between curious students and basic engineering skills. The workshop is aimed at catering 50 students on a first-registration first-serve basis. We are focusing on using EnVision and ECE Makerspace as places for students to solder. We are looking at breaking students into two groups or around 25 students each when soldering to stay within the limits of makerspace capacity. While one group solders, the other group could potentially explore a lab tour or something along those lines. We are planning on providing lunch to students. We are also going to have a guest speaker to speak to these students about careers in engineering. Soldering equipment will be borrowed from IEEE, and potentially PiB and EnVision. We hope to end the day with a mini soldering competition where students get to solder a PCB LED kit or something within a limited amount of time. They get to take home the soldered PCBs.
