The TMU Thrill Design Competition is one of the top Themed Entertainment Design Competitions in the country. It is an amazing opportunity for students to work through real theme park design challenges and present them to industry professionals. The competition has a virtual open qualifying round in May, which we qualified for. This application is for the registration/lodging fee for the invitational round of this competition. The invitational involves essentially a 48 hour design challenge, where in a very limited time span, we create a full design and presentation pitch for a theme park ride. At the end of the challnge, we present our design to a panel of 5-6 jurors, all of whom are professional engineers and operations professionals in theme parks, mostly from Universal Creative, who will them assess our design and offer us feedback. This is a competition against approximately 20 other schools, where we represent the university. In previous years, challenges have focused on specific tasks related to mechanical design, safety and accessibility, interactive attractions, and various attraction design challenges that involved NoLimits rollercoaster modeling, complex storytelling, technology, and environmental constraints; they do not release the exact details of the challenge until you attend in person. This competition provides a premier opportunity for TEA@UCSD members to develop industry-specific skills, work on challenges created by professionals in the field, and connect with other students. We went to this competition the last 2 years, and it was an incredibly enriching and educational experience, and we are looking forward to sending our team again!

We intend on applying for the triton tournament fund, however applications are not open for this academic year, so we are unsure if the dates will line up/it will open in time. We would apply for the 650 registration fee, if we do not get AS funding.
