Designing Success: Exploring Roles in UX

Open Details

I believe that students may have not known that the event was happening prior to that day. There might've also been a difference in expected attendance numbers because the event may not be what students are interested in or need at the moment. There was also the factor of communication and expectations with marketing, as they may not have been communicated well, which may have led to late notice about the event to students

The aim of the workshop was to inform students of popular design roles within the ui/ux design industry. We wanted to introduce both popular roles (ux design, visual design, etc.) along with other roles that aren't typically thought of or considered as part of the ux industry, for example, content strategist. Our goal was to provide a space for students to meet each other and learn together and to ask the event directors questions or for advice.

Yes, we consider it a success because we weren't expecting that many people to attend our first event. We feel that 40+ people attending our first event is a good starting point.

Our most valuable resources were board members that came to the event and helped out with tech issues and just generally attending (shoutout vp nitya :), and justine's boyfriend who helped set up and clean up).

We had a small issue with connecting the laptop to the TV screen. Additionally, tv screen was also a bit too small for people in the back to view. To combat this, in the future we would share the slide deck with the audience so they can view themselves

To improve for our next event, we will have a better plan about setting up, and distribute responsibilities more clearly to ensure that setup is more smooth and efficient.

Some online changes we would make are to have better communication with marketing & graphics team about when to send out reminders/announcements of events on social media.
