Internship Hunting 101: Cracking the Coding Interview
40
There was a slightly lower actual attendance, probably due to the addition of a last minute speaker. To improve future attendance, refining the promotional approach is essential. By gathering input through a short pre-event survey, future events could be tailored to directly address the specific needs and interests of attendees, making the content more relevant. Partnering with student organizations focused on career development, particularly those related to computer science or engineering, could broaden outreach and ensure that the message reaches students actively pursuing internships. Additionally, scheduling the event at times more conducive to student participation, such as weekends or late afternoons, may help increase accessibility.

The primary goal of Internship Hunting 101: Cracking the Coding Interview was to provide UCSD undergraduate students with a comprehensive understanding of the coding interview process, empowering them with the confidence and resources needed to excel. The event aimed to demystify interviews by breaking down common question types, discussing effective strategies, and highlighting real-world examples from recent interview experiences. In addition to skill-building, the event sought to foster a supportive community where students could connect, form study groups, and access a network of mentors. Ideally, students would leave feeling equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with a clearer mindset for approaching interviews.
From a success standpoint, the event would be considered effective if it left students feeling more prepared and confident for coding interviews. Success indicators might include feedback from attendees, an increase in follow-up inquiries about internships or interview preparation, and requests for similar sessions in the future.
The most valuable resources were likely the insights and personal experiences shared by the guest speakers or experienced interviewers, as these provided students with practical guidance grounded in reality. The practice exercises and interactive components also played a crucial role by giving students an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a supportive environment and our Adobe SWE speaker.
The projector of the room does not work, so we switched to TV and people had a hard time coming up with more questions to ask our speaker.
We would arrive earlier to ensure room tech was working and also prepare questions before hand to ask our speaker.
From a promotional perspective, adjustments to online advertising could further improve attendance and engagement. Highlighting the practical outcomes, such as increased readiness for coding interviews and tips for internship hunting, could appeal to students who are career-focused. Testimonials from past attendees can provide social proof and convey the event's value more effectively. Collaborating with other student organizations or academic departments may increase the event's reach, as well as sending personalized reminders to those who registered as the event date approaches.
